Process Control System: Tyre Sorting Plant with Labeling System and Shrink Tunnel

Full process control system for a tyre sorting plant with 3 sorting circuits β€” including WMS integration, label printing, and shrink tunnel control. Throughput: up to 50,000 tyres per day.

The Plant at a Glance

The plant comprises three sorting circuits, each with three infeed stations and inbound scanners. Tyres are sorted to 9 outlets. When a tyre enters the system, a shipping label is requested from the WMS, printed, and applied to the tyre. Within the sorting circuit, the applied label is scanned and the target outlet is determined.

Shrink Tunnel

Shrink tunnel HDTs communicate with the PCS via REST web service for status control.

50,000 Tyres/Day

Designed for a throughput of up to 50,000 tyres per day.

How the System Works

A tyre is placed at one of the infeed stations. An inbound scanner identifies the tyre, triggering a label request from the WMS. The shipping label is printed and automatically applied to the tyre.

Within the sorting circuit, the applied label is scanned again, the target outlet (1 of 9) is determined, and the tyre is routed accordingly. The shrink tunnel HDTs continuously report their processing status via REST.

  • Tyre identification via inbound scanners at all infeed stations
  • Automated WMS label request and printing via FTP
  • In-circuit label scan for target determination
  • Shrink tunnel (HDT) control via REST web service
  • TCP/IP telegram communication with plant controller

System Integration

The process control system communicates with multiple external systems using different protocols.

Plant Controller

Bidirectional communication via TCP/IP telegrams.

WMS (Shipping Labels)

Per-tyre shipping label retrieval from the warehouse management system.

Label Printers (FTP)

Label printers receive print data via FTP.

Shrink Tunnels (HDTs)

Status and control communication via REST web service.
